Fall/Winter 2007-08 catwalks were all about ruffles, folds and twisted materials inspired by geometrical shapes. From Christian Dior to Nina Ricci, from Givenchy to Proenza Schouler and Sophia Kokosalaki, artful details were on party dresses, skirts, shirts and even accessorises.
When ubermodel Natalia Vodianova wore dove grey dress with origami-inspired detailing (by Christian Dior Haute Couture) to the 2007 Oscars’ after party, every fashionista in the world knew that geometrical play with fabrics will soon be a major trend.
Other celebrities had to follow: Victoria Beckham made Hollywood A-listers pea green with envy when she appeared in Roland Mouret’s Moon dress from his new RM range that is still yet-to-be-released.
Rosamound Pike recently wore a ruffled bronze dress to the premiere of the ‘Atonement’.Unfortunately,it was a miss-too much detail kills the look, so remember to keep it simple.
Anna Vintour, the always polished to perfection editor of US Vogue, was seen in a stunning layered, cut and folded cocktail dress by Valentino at the recent Men’s Vogue party.
And last but not least, Marc Jacobs’s Stam patchwork bag has been the arm candy of everybody who could afford one.
