Cosmetics giant Hydroderm is suing actress Teri Hatcher for more than 2 million dollars because it says she has breached her contract with the company.

The suit was filed against the “Desperate Housewives” star in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday.  In court documents, Hydroderm alleges that in a deal made with the actress in 2005, Hatcher was not allowed to use her name, voice, autograph, image or likeness to promote, endorse, market or in any way advertise any skin care product which was manufactured or marketed by Hydroderm’s competitors, however, the company claims in the lawsuit that the actress violated the terms of the contract by endorsing a lip-enhancing product made by City Cosmetics, which is in direct competition with Hydroderm’s lip enhancer, Volumizing Lip Serum.

Hydroderm is hoping to recoup the $2.4 million it has paid to Hatcher, as well as any additional monies the company said it shelled out in expenses related to the deal.

A representative for Hatcher issued a statement, dismissing the allegations as totally false and completely without merit:

“Ms. Hatcher will respond swiftly and decisively by appropriate legal means to recover everything she is owed under her contract, as well as compensatory and punitive damages for Hydroderm’s outrageous accusations.”
