The Celebrities and the Oscars: Red Carpet Magic
February 26, 2008 | Leave a Comment
The Oscars didn’t have much of a viewing, but the Red Carpet was still amazing. The trend: red dresses, and many of them were simply beautiful. The accessories were also something to talk about.
Nicole Kidman wore a beautiful 14-carat diamond necklace that was just extraordinary. Sharon Stone, on the other hand, committed a horrible atrocity by wearing a rat’s claw broach. Rabbits feet may be good luck charms, but rat’s claws as hideous. I’m sure PETA is going to have a field day with that one.
Neither Cameron Diaz nor Renee Zellweger wore red on the Red carpet, and they both made incredibly different statements. Cameron exemplified beauty and class. Renee, however, looked worse than her Bridget Jones character did on her worst days.
What can we learn from the Oscars? Have someone tell you if you look all right before stepping out into the great, wide unknown - especially if 32 million people are going to be looking at you.
Heidi Klum Sued Over Jewelry Design Similarities
December 27, 2007 | Leave a Comment
German supermodel Heidi Klum is being sued by luxury jeweller Van Cleef and Arpels because they claimed that she copied one of their jewelry designs, a vintage clover.
Now, granted the designs are very similar, so that doesn’t look good for Heidi. And they both are very pretty. Charm-like bracelets and necklaces are back in. Anyway, the company is suing Heidi’s company, Heidi Klum GmbH, and another company she designed for, Mouawad USA, another company she’s designed jewelry for in the past.
Problem is: There are a lot of similarities.
This is the Heidi Klum GmbH necklace (the Mouawad design is at the top):
This is the Van Cleef and Arpel Necklace:
Do you think there are too many similarities? Or do you think Heidi’s is an original design?
Fashion Accessory: Really Long Necklaces
December 21, 2007 | Leave a Comment

You know those long necklaces worn by stars like Cate Blanchett - and by Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, “Carrie Bradshaw”, in Sex and the City? Well, now they’re easirer for the rest of us to get our hands on. Banana Republic has a bunch of the coolest long necklaces, and they’re all on sale for under $50.
I love long necklaces because they can be worn in several different ways, and each way has a slightly different look.
Banana Republic has the pendant necklaces, like what Cate Blanchett’s wearing, for between $28 to $50. Those are nice, but I prefer the long ones, like what the model is wearing, which are between $38 and $48.
These can be worn long, like the model has it, or can be wrapped around your neck a couple of times - creating different looks and feels for each look. How cool is that?
Elegant and Beautiful Sea-Themed Jewelry

Whether it’s for yourself or someone else, now is the time to be buying jewelry. Sea-themed jewelry is an old idea that’s being done differently. And it’s never been more beautiful.
Valerie Saint-Gaudens is using opals, silver and gold in the way it’s always been done, to create rings and necklaces that are very beautiful, but highly unoriginal, like this opal dolphin ring. An opal in the center with two dolphins around it for $470.
Lauren Wolf, on the other hand is incorporting things from the see into the jewerly, like this Sting Ray bracelet ($800), which is textured like a sting ray.
Catherine Weitzman also has a jewelry collection made from things found in nature, like this coral necklace ($90).
This beautiful jewelry contains truly unique, fascinating pieces of art that emulate something amazing: nature.
Shop Your NYC Favorites at Found4Less
December 7, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Found4Less has become one of my newest favorite websites. With its local emphasis on NYC bargains, the recently launched Found4Less.com is awesome. It gives fashion-conscious New Yorkers on a budget a new way of shopping and although I’m not in New York (or anywhere near the East Coast for that matter), it’s such a fun place to browse for bargains, get the latest scoop on trends, tips and tricks, that you can visit no matter where you live!
Mirela Gluck, who co-founded Found4Less and who is also a huge ”Sex and the City” fan, wondered just why it was that none of her friends had a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes, awesome handbags or the perfect (and affordable) little black dress. With a little work, she set out to change things and the result of her efforts is Found4Less.com, a web site that provides comparison shopping, product advice, information on affordable places and the latest sale locations for New Yorkers and visitors to the Big Apple.
Besides the latest NYC sales, the site also offers up advice and timely information on everything from shoes, jewelry and clothing to beauty and gadgets.
To see what expert advice and bargains await you (no matter where you live!), visit the website at Found4Less.com.

French designer Christian Lacroix opened his second store in the states earlier this week, located on East 57th Street in New York. Says Lacroix, who founded his Haute Couture house in Paris in 1987:
“I will never forget how supportive the United States and New York were at the very beginning of my career, so it is a legitimate return to my ‘American roots’ twenty years later, after my first show here.”
The store carries the Fall 2007 collection of womenswear, menswear and accessories. His Haute Couture collections, famed for ultra-luxe and artful theatricality, were joined by elegant ready-to-wear collections in 1988, followed by fantastical shoes, bags and jewelry in 1989.
Pharrell Williams for Louis Vuitton Jewelry Release in January
December 5, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Pharrell Williams and Louis Vuitton.
Perhaps a strange partnership to some, but the only thing that matters is what happens in the creative process and obviously, this is one collaboration that has so far proved well for both parties, especially since forming their unique efforts three years ago.
Since then, Pharrell has managed to become the poster boy for Louis Vuitton’s fall 2006/2007 advertising campaign, teamed up with Marc Jacobs to design some fab shades, and although his jewelry line partnership with Camille Miceli for Louis Vuitton was supposed to launch earlier this year, well…Pharrell’s been busy.
Not to worry though, come January, the jewelry collection is scheduled to hit the masses with what will undoubtedly be a dazzling launch in Paris.
Tiffany and Swatch Team Up
December 4, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Tiffany and watch maker Swatch have teamed up and signed a 20 year contract which allows them to make and distribute all their watches.
It’s been rumored that Tiffany is a favorite takeover target these days - at least one analyst believes this could be a bad thing and what’s in it for Swatch? They already own 18 watch brands. Word is that this is a move to further the development and distribution of Tiffany & Co. branded watches. Switzerland-based Swatch will incorporate a new watch-making company that will be authorized to use Tiffany’s trademark and operate under the Tiffany name.
Stand by: There’s a press conference scheduled for Wednesday.
Designer Fashion for a Quarter of the Price
November 12, 2007 | 3 Comments
Robert Cavalli is now selling his products at H&M. For those who don’t know Cavalli’s work, he is THE fashion designer - he’s like a really hot rockstar, but instead of singing, he designs clothes. “His clothes have been on the hottest bodies in Hollywood,” including Kate Hudson, whose dress is pictured below.
Halle Berry says that Rober Cavalli is “One of my personal favorite, always very sexy, always very on the end, always changes before other designers change, always a designer I will wear.” And now, his clothing is available to more than just the rich and famous.
Even though Kate paid close to $1000 for the dress, a similar design is available at H&M for only $350 - and that is the highest price product in the Cavalli line. Cavalli has 25 products for women, and 20 for men available at H&M, and that includes both lingerie and accessories. The products are only available in 200 stores, only 10 of them in the United States, but they are also available online at www.hm.com.
The collection includes some very beautiful animal print dresses, and even though I’m not necessarily a fan of them, they are very fashionable. The collection also includes corsets, and on the November 12, 2007’s show of “The View,” all of the hosts wore some of this fashion, featuring vests, jackets, pants, some pretty dresses, gorgeous shoes, necklaces and earrings. The pieces ranged from $5 to $200, and some of the ensembles sold for under $75 for everything.
The men’s collection includes men’s “basics” like a brown jacket, a brown v-neck shirt, a jacket and trousers, with a skinny cut on the pants, and even a black trench coat.
Cavalli’s jewelry is his signature gold, with a lizard-snake motif that is reflected in both the men’s and women’s designs.
