Heel-Less Shoes: A New Kind of Style
February 29, 2008 | 1 Comment
Stylish, quiet and uncomfortable, these shoes are everything lovers and haters of high-heeled shoes have something to unite over: 5 1/2 inches an no heel in sight. Created by designer Antonio Berardi, the shoes are about $3,600. Unfortunately, Berardi himself admitted they can’t be worn long.
To a certain degree, I can see the appeal. No one likes to have their heel jarring against pavement in a stiletto heel - the key is learning to walk so it doesn’t happen. And although the heel-less shoes have a wider base, I still don’t think they would offer enough balance.
Doctors don’t like it, explaining that the elevation of the foot forces you to lean forward, making them bad for the back and the foot. And although that part is like regular heels, the heel-less shoes, one doctor explained, “The front of the foot ends up taking the weight of the bulk of your body, which can in turn do damage to the tendons in your legs by shortening them.”
Here’s the thing: Unlike jelly shoes, which have more or less bombed the way they should have the first time, these are on back order for five weeks in England, and they’re catching on in the United States fast! Victoria Beckham already has a pair in snakeskin. (No surprise there.)
Making it even worse: I think these shoes are ugly, but these are still the cutest shoes I’ve seen all season.
Prada: New Fragrance Inspired by the Yin and Yang

Balance is everywhere, including designer fragrances. Prada has created a new perfume which is inspired by the Yin and the Yang, “a balance of harmony in a distracted world.” The scent, Infusion D’Iris, is light and feminine with a dash of Florentine Iris.
Daniela Andrier and Miuccia Prada worked together to create the “like a dream” fragrance that pushes traditional barriers of age and sexuality, but is still packaged in the traditional box-like manner. In it, in addition to the iris root, is mandarin, orange blossom, incense, vetiver and other things.
Calvin Klein Creates New Fragrance: Euphoria Blossom

A new scent by Calvin Klein, Euphoria Blossom, is the first scent created by Klein to suit Asian preferences. As such, it has a number of Asian ingredients including kumquat, pomegranate, dewy green accord, orchid blossom, lotus, pink peony petals, blond wood, white amber and frosted sheer musk.
Euphoria Blossom is based on the original “Euphoria for Women” which Calvin Klein released in 2005. They are both created with sweet fruits (like the pomegranate in Euphoria Blossom), and has a citrus accent. Euphoria Blossom is lighter than the original, and it’s not a sexy scent, instead it kind of blends in with other scents.
Euphoria Blossom is available almost everywhere perfumes are sold at $36 for a 30 oz bottle.

Garavani Valentino: Stepped Down During Paris Fashion Week
January 25, 2008 | Leave a Comment
During Paris Fashion Week this week, Garavani Valentino waved goodbye to the fashion world at age 75. One front row guest, David Furnish said, “He is parting in happiness but the fashion world is in mourning.”
The designer’s designs have definitely wowed the fashion world and he will be sorely missed. Think long white gloves, the long red dress and perfect elegance… that is what the world will be missing as Valentino steps down.
So the world of fashion bids adieu the man who brought women creative and elegant designs, a man who once said, “I love women. I’ve always tried to make them look very sexy, very glamorous.”

The Armani Ginza Tower carries all of the Armani clothing and accessories, and it even carries Armani’s furniture and the world’s first Armani spa.
The building, which is designed in a chic, modern manner with bamboo motif “Japanese touches,” is located between the Sukiyabashi crossing and the Ginza Yon-chome crossing and is surrounded with other designer boutiques.

Fashion Icon Coco Chanel Miniseries
December 25, 2007 | Leave a Comment
What happens when you combine fashion history with television? A “Chanel” miniseries, that’s what. Lifetime plans on airing a show which follows the story of Coco Chanel, starting with her growing up in an orphanage outside of Paris. However, the focus of the show is on Chanel’s reinventing herself, after she re-established herself as a fashion trendsetter in her 70s.
Chanel, who died in 1971, was named one of the most influential people of the 20th century by Time Magazine.
Director Christian Duguay said he wants to make the miniseries into something meaningful. “There’s no point in doing it if it won’t educate people and entertain, but in an original way. It’s a love story, it’s a rags-to-riches story, it has some strong social statements about women and about how the world has changed.”
Shirley MacLaine will be playing Coco Chanel in her later years, and Barbora Bobulova will be playing her in her early years. The two-part miniseries will be airing sometime in 2008.

What Should Pregnant Jamie Lynn Spears Wear?
December 20, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Top maternity fashion designer Liz Lange offers some fashion tips for Jamie Lynn Spears as she embarks into the world of covering baby bumps. Of course, she’s only 12 weeks along, so she’s not showing yet, but she will be soon enough. Since Jamie Lynn is in the public eye, wearing overlarge clothing isn’t exactly going to work.
And Liz says she doesn’t think big sister Britney Spear’s look will be great for her. (Britney wore little dresses and cowboy boots.) “She’s a young girl, so I would want to keep her look innocent… I think little cute dresses and jeans with tight-fitting tee shirts… she’s 16, and I would like to see her look her age.”
