Paris Hilton Designs Shoes

 Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton is designing shoes, calling the collection “Paris Hilton Footwear.” The new line is designed for those who are fashionable, but who can’t (or don’t want to) drop tons of money for shoes. “I have always loved shoes, and after working on my recently launched sportswear and fragrance lines, this seemed like a natural next step.”

Of course, the shoes are going to have some pink in them (her obsession with the color makes me think of Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blond - although at least Elle was cute about it) and will be sold at Macy’s, Kitson and other boutiques. The “without spending a fortune” shoes will cost between $60 and $200, which is standard for celebrity-brand shoes (even the ones that are scary).

The line will be ready this spring and I can’t wait to see what they look like so I can decide whether or not they’re wearable. I’m guessing they will be - even if I won’t be able to afford them.

Angelina Jolie at the SAG Awards

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt at SAG Awards

So here’s the question: did Angelina Jolie wear a tent, a baby-bump cover-up, or something from a high school science project to the SAG Awards?  Personally, I’m thinking it’s a combination of the three. Her tent-like dress did nothing for her figure, although it would have hidden a baby bump - although there have to be better ways of doing it - and the colors - ugh.

Here’s the thing about the colors on this dress: Angelina technically should look good in shades of brown - she has brown hair and a darker complexion. I guess it’s the wrong shade. And then there’s black - black and brown in the dress? No no no.

If she’s pregnant, I’m happy for her. Angelina makes a great mom, and she clearly cares for her kids. However, she does need to wear something more flattering - or at least something that fits.

Garavani Valentino: Stepped Down During Paris Fashion Week

Garavani Valentino

During Paris Fashion Week this week, Garavani Valentino waved goodbye to the fashion world at age 75. One front row guest, David Furnish said, “He is parting in happiness but the fashion world is in mourning.”

The designer’s designs have definitely wowed the fashion world and he will be sorely missed. Think long white gloves, the long red dress and perfect elegance… that is what the world will be missing as Valentino steps down.

So the world of fashion bids adieu the man who brought women creative and elegant designs, a man who once said, “I love women. I’ve always tried to make them look very sexy, very glamorous.”

Kim Kardashian Poses For Travis Barker Fashion Line

Kim Kardashian in bikini
Little A-list wannabe Kim Kardashian has agreed to pose - mostly naked - for the Travis Barker fashion line. I guess she thinks her assets will get her far in modeling - first in Playboy and now naked again. I guess you gotta do what you’re good at, right? As you can see, they’re kinda taking the girls and hot cars approach, copying the Louis-Vuitton approach.

In any case, Aubrey O’Day was also featured (also naked) for the fashion line, which is called, “Famous Stars and Stripes.” It might sound patriotic, but it isn’t.

You can see the rest of the pictures of Km here.

Fergie’s Furthered Wardrobe Problems

January 18, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Fergie can always be counted on for a laugh, or more accurately, a grimace. The thing is, this time her outfit was nice, it wasn’t like she wore something ridiculous or laughable. (Like this)

Fergie

Instead, it was that Fergie forgot to look in the mirror - or something. It reminds me of a part of L.M. Montgomery’s novel, “Rilla of Ingleside,” where Rilla goes to visit someone’s house - the house of someone she hates - and ends up going there with two different shoes on. One is a soft slipper matching her beautiful dress, and one is a big ugly boot. Rilla ends up vowing to never go out without looking at both her feet again. Fergie needs to vow to never go out - or onstage - without checking herself out in the mirror, or she’ll end up looking like this:

American Idol Fashion Mistakes

January 17, 2008 | 1 Comment

Do you watch American Idol? Some of it frightens me a little bit sometimes. I mean, I love the show. I’m addicted. Every day, I’m plopped in front of mine or my boyfriend’s television, watching it.  And, to me, just as important as the people’s voices is what they’re wearing. How you dress says something about what you think about the activity

Here’s what I think: the American Idol audition is an interview. You need to dress professionally. If you don’t dress professionally, you don’t have a future for the show. For this type of thing, a suit or a dress isn’t necessary, even if that is professional; jeans are perfectly fine. On the other hand, dressing up in a costume is not acceptable. Yes, you have personality, don’t show it to us by dressing up like someone else. You won’t be taken seriously.

Have you ever noticed how nice Paula and Randy and Simon always look on the show? That’s the way it should be.

Jeans, skirts, dresses are fine. T-shirts are fine.

So, this man would be perfectly dressed for an American Idol audition, but not a job interview:

Jennifer Aniston’s outfit is appropriately for both an American Idol audition or a job interview:

This man is not dressed appropriately for either:

Hayden Panettiere on the Cover of Lucky

Hayden Panettiere on the cover of the February 2008 Lucky Magazine

So, Hayden Panettiere has become a household name after just a couple of years, and not only is she making a mark on the world in terms of acting, but in terms of fashion, compassion and beauty. Basically, Hayden is the Hollywood’s coolest person and is definitely on the Hollywood fast track. Which is probably why Lucky Magazine put her on their February 2008 cover.

According to Hayden in Lucky, “I’ve only recently been able to try out a bunch of different styles without feeling like I’m dressing beyond my age. On the show, I spend most of my time in a cheerleading uniform, so in real life I like to have a lot more fun with my clothes.” Then, Lucky showed us what the fashionable star likes - starting with shoes (and you know how much I love a shoe girl).

“I’m short, so I’m always on the hung from cute shoes with a little extra height,” said Hayden, who evidently tried on every shoe in the studio. She also talked about color, “I really try to go for it when it comes to color: Bright, exotic, greenish blue might be my favorite.”

The thing about Hayden is this: she may be young, but she knows what she wants, and she’s going for it. That is the mark of a true star. She takes chances and wears what she likes, and that is the mark of a true fashionista.

Katherine McPhee Carries Ugly Boob Purse

Katherine McPhee carries ugly boob purse

Katherine McPhee is one of my least favorite celebrities, and she’s just made my (mental) “bad accessories” list. She’s been carrying around the boob purse shown in the picture above. My personal theory is she’s using it to hide the fact that she doesn’t have any of her own, but I could be wrong. In any case, this purse is a no. It should never ever ever ever be worn. By anyone. Not by a normal person and certainly not by a celebrity. Even Fergie’s handbags are better.

It reminds me of those Corset Purses that were really popular a few years ago. (Picture below.) Hated those. Unfortunately, a former roommate loves them. In fact, she loves them so much she’s collecting them to display under her television. This is the ultimate sadness.

Corset Purse

There is a reason bras and corsets are referred to as undergarments: no one is supposed to see them. So, please, if you have one of these purses and you are over 13, throw it in a box to give to your grandchildren who will laugh at it. Find something small, like a clutch, or something spacious, like a hobo bag, and get that instead. Say “classy” not “trashy.”

Tyra Banks Tells Us How To Look Thinner

January 14, 2008 | Leave a Comment

As we’re still only in the very beginning of the new year, we still have plenty of time to make changes and complete our new years resolutions.

For those who made a new years resolution to lose weight, this could help. Obviously, I can’t help you lose weight, but I do know some ways to make you look slimmer - which helps along the way. It’s possible to look slimmer - and feel slimmer - even if you haven’t lost a pound. Sometimes, that’s all you need to feel like you’re being successful.

On the Tyra Banks show a short time ago, Tyra shared these six tips:

Four other ways to look slimmer are:

1) Good posture - good posture makes you look slimmer because you’re standing taller - it makes you feel better and is good for you, anyway, so keep your chin up.

2) Wear dark colors with monochromatic schemes - dark colors make you look slimmer, light colors will make you look bigger. You can use colorful things for accessories, if you want, which will (obviously) brighten up your outfit.

3) Wear tailored clothing - tailored clothing makes your waist look smaller and makes all of you look more together.

4) Wear smaller prints if you’re small and bigger prints if you’re big.

The Men’s Fashion Revival: Back to the 70’s

That 70’s Show: Is this what we have to look forard to?
Okay, ready for some news that probably isn’t going to surprise any of you? The 70’s are making a revival. And not only in women’s wear, but in men’s wear, as well.

You should start looking for the tight, unbuttoned shirts of the 70’s, and grow out your sideburns good and long. Nehru colors will be back and so will the checkered safari jackets.

Dolce and Gabbana has been designing the faded jeans with bits of attached metal and leather. And even though the elephant flares seem to be sitting on the sidelines, purple is trying to sneak its way back in.

And if that’s not enough, Chanel is already featuring jumpsuits, and there’s no reason to assume lunchbags won’t become handbags. Again. Hopefully, it’s not time to dust off the scary bowling shoes, too.

I mean, weren’t the 70’s bad enough the first time? Like the 80’s? Do we really have to do them over?
