Rihanna

H&M is partnering with “Designers Against AIDS” and several musicians and artists including Rihanna, Good Charlotte, Rufus Wainwright, Ziggy Marley, Jade Jagger and Timbaland. Together, they are planning on creating a “cotton collection” named “Fashion Against AIDS” for girls and guys. The collection will be in stores in February of 2008.

Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from this collection will be going towards the prevention of HIV/AIDS around the world. The product also aims to raise awareness of the AIDS problem.

The collection will have t-shirts, tank tops, and hooded sweaters made of organic cotton. The garments feature an original print, varying from a subtle couple under a red umbrella to a bold, “Use a Condom,” and the name of the designer is on the neckline. Prices vary from $12.90 to $34.50.

Calvin Klein Makes Beauty A Part of Fashion

Models Wearing the New ck Calvin Klein beauty products

Calvin Klein has decided to use the colors found in the clothing products in their makeup line. ck Calvin Klein creative director, Kevin Carrigan, said, “We wanted to link makeup back to fashion.” The beauty line will launch in the U.S. in January.

Basically, the beauty collection utilizes the colors that were found on the runway. Fuchsia used in a shirt could be turned into a lipstick. If that fuschia has a cellophane overlay, the lipstick might have a touch of gloss so both the color and the texture match. Navy in a shoe could become a navy nail polish.

Carrigan went on to explain, “It’s about updating the face to go with the outfits they’re wearing.”

Most of the products will cost about $20.

Lauren Conrad Plans on Holding Fashion Show

Lauren Conrad

The Hills star Lauren Conrad spoke to the Chicago Sun Times about the possibility of her holding a fashion show once she returns from Paris. She says there’s about a 99 percent chance of her doing the fashion show. She doesn’t expect Paris to change her fashion much - she says she’ll always design for herself - and that her style’s constantly changing.

When asked who she thinks has the best style in Hollywood, she says she likes Ashley Olsen. “I love the Olsen twin style. They really will try everything. These girls don’t follow a trend. They set their own trends. Anyone can open a magazine and dress the way they tell you to dress. It takes time to create your own style and the Olsens are brave and take risks.”

Although I completely disagree with her about the Olsen twins, she was also asked if she was a shoe girl, and Lauren responded, “I’m a huge shoes girl. I bought this big bookshelf that I installed on the wall in my bedroom. I keep all my good shoes on it. You almost display the shoes that way. Shoes are like art to me. They need to be displayed.”

No girl who loves shoes that much can be all bad.

Scarlett Johansson in Elle Belgium

Scarlet Johansson in Elle Belgium

Scarlett Johansson made an appearance in Elle Belgium this month (December 2007), and she’s looking really sexy in her gorgeous pictures. Not only is she flaunting her cleavage, but she looks as stylish and beautiful as ever. The photo shoot has pictures of her from all angles: playful and fun, sexy, and just getting ready. Maybe they’ll make a 2009 Calendar using some of these pics - you know, since they obviously won’t be in the 2008 Calendar.

Check out the pics, and if you know Dutch, you’ll actually be able to read the magazine article, which must be nice. I have to admit, I do love her style. Evidently, Elle does, too. Either way, enjoy the pics!

Fashion Accessory: Really Long Necklaces

Cate Blanchett long necklace
You know those long necklaces worn by stars like Cate Blanchett - and by Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, “Carrie Bradshaw”, in Sex and the City? Well, now they’re easirer for the rest of us to get our hands on. Banana Republic has a bunch of the coolest long necklaces, and they’re all on sale for under $50.

I love long necklaces because they can be worn in several different ways, and each way has a slightly different look.

Banana Republic has the pendant necklaces, like what Cate Blanchett’s wearing, for between $28 to $50. Those are nice, but I prefer the long ones, like what the model is wearing, which are between $38 and $48.

These can be worn long, like the model has it, or can be wrapped around your neck a couple of times - creating different looks and feels for each look. How cool is that?

What Should Pregnant Jamie Lynn Spears Wear?

Jamie Lynn Spears and (boyfriend) Casey Aldridge

Top maternity fashion designer Liz Lange offers some fashion tips for Jamie Lynn Spears as she embarks into the world of covering baby bumps. Of course, she’s only 12 weeks along, so she’s not showing yet, but she will be soon enough. Since Jamie Lynn is in the public eye, wearing overlarge clothing isn’t exactly going to work.

And Liz says she doesn’t think big sister Britney Spear’s look will be great for her. (Britney wore little dresses and cowboy boots.) “She’s a young girl, so I would want to keep her look innocent… I think little cute dresses and jeans with tight-fitting tee shirts… she’s 16, and I would like to see her look her age.”

Eva Mendes on Stripping Down For PETA

Eva Mendes for PETA

Eva Mendes’ PETA campaign poster - with her on it, naked, - is being unveiled this afternoon in Los Angeles on Robertson Boulevard, down the street from Ivy Restaurant.

Eva says it all started when she forgot warm clothes for a New York premiere and ended up borrowing a fur coat. PETA sent her a letter, and she decided not to do it again. Then, a short time ago, she and her filmmaker boyfriend, got a 70-pound Belgian Malinois who is the guard dog at her house. Then, she realized that she couldn’t wear her dog.

It was sometime after that that Mendes agreed to pose (naked) for PETA with the tagline “Fur? I’d rather go naked.”

“It’s very tasteful,” said Mendes. “It’s all in fun. It’s got a flirtatious, fun spirit about it. It’s not like come hither or anything like that.” She adds that she’s not out to change people’s minds, she just wants them to be aware of the issue.

 Sarah Murdoch Pretty in Prada

Vogue chooses the people they think are the best dressed throughout the week. Take a look at this week’s top 3:

Vogue named Sarah Murdoch (above) this week’s best-dressed celebrity at the “Billy Elliot: The Musical” premiere in Sydney, Australia at the capital theater.  She was wearing a gorgeous floral print Prada dress.

Second best-dressed was Hilary Swank for the “P.S. I Love You” premiere in Hollywood at Grauman’s Chinese Theater.” She was wearing a black chiffon - and feathery-looking - Monique Lhuillier dress.

Third best-dressed goes to Diane Kruger for the “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” premiere in Tokyo. She was looking very chic in Chanel Haute Couture, Christian Louboutin shoes and Cathy Waterman earrings.

Fashion Trend: Flared Skirts

flared satin skirt

Flared skirts are very sexy, and a little bit playful. They’re typically about knee length, and they go great with opaque tights, like what Kate Moss was wearing, and a chunky heel - any heel, really. High-heeled boots will work, too. The skirt’s flare gives you a spring in the midst of the cold winter.

Be sure, though, that if you’re wearing a flared skirt like the one pictured above ($26 at Forever 21 or online at Twelve by Twelve), that you should wear something tighter on top with it. You can’t wear a flared bottom with a large top, or you’ll look frumpy and uneven.

This $280 Binetti mini flared skirt is a very cool combination of tweed and lace. The mini might be hard for some to pull off, especially with the embellishment. This is available at www.net-a-porter.com. Note: though incredibly fashionable, flared skirts will make your butt look big.

Vivienne Westwood Returns to London Catwalk!

 fashion designer Vivienne Westwood

After ten  years away from the London catwalk, Vivienne Westwood is returning! She’s planning on showing her women’s wear line, “Red Label” in February, the 10th through the 15th. The clothes she’ll be showing are for the Winter and Fall 2008 collection.

The last collection Vivienne showed was in 1998, and now she says, “The sales of all our lines are increasing and we decided that Red Label, which is successful worldwide and is so popular in the U.K. should have its own show.”

As you can see below, Vivienne’s logo is a “royal  ORB” with a cross on it. It’s bejeweled, and is very appropriate for this fashion icon, who has been called the Queen of British Fashion. In addition to fashion, Vivienne has designed watches, an eyewear collection, and some tableware.

Two other designers, Matthew Williamson and Luella Bartley, did something similar. They were out for several years, and then returned back to the show in fall of 2007.
